“Can we make a green salad every week?”
-Abdul, 4th grader
We cultivate healthy youth through growing gardens in low-income, diverse communities.
We believe deeply in what we do and the change that we are able to make right here in San Francisco. We teach gardening, cooking, and healthy living to our youth, providing them with amazing outdoor experiences right here in the Western Addition.
We’re hiring our fall BEETS cohort!
This fall we’ll continue to learn about food justice with a special focus on medicinal plants and herbs and how fresh fruit and vegetables can heal our bodies and communities. The BEETS will learn how to plant and maintain water-wise gardens while also gaining valuable leadership and job skills.
Summer gardening fun
On Thursday, July 9th K-2nd graders from the Buchanan YMCA were busy in the Rosa Parks Upper Garden with Ms. Serena Squash, learning about what plants need to grow and hunting for bugs! Later, 2nd and 3rd graders from Prince Hall helped harvest carrots and leeks!
Join us for our upcoming fundraiser at Patxi’s Pizza on August 12th. The Hayes Valley location is generously donating 10% of their sales to help us maintain our gardens and continue our environmental education, job training and healthy eating and cooking classes for youth.
